Vendor selection

The right vendor, defensibly chosen

Manufacturing

European confectionery, North American operations

Challenge
A sunset payroll platform and antiquated time & attendance across US and Canada, with higher payroll and time headcount than expected.
Opportunity
Identify the right group of vendors — including the incumbent — to present current solutions in a structured selection.
Outcome
Despite internal pressure to keep the incumbent, the client chose a new vendor with stronger capabilities. It ranked first in user experience and capability, second in delivered integrations, and was the second-lowest cost.
Financial services

Global firm, post-acquisition consolidation

Challenge
A post-acquisition global payroll and time RFP to consolidate vendors, increase compliance, and reduce cost.
Opportunity
From an initial field of seven vendors, quickly narrow to five for detailed analysis alongside the client.
Outcome
The client used the process to win pricing concessions from three vendors, selecting two primary vendors plus three smaller vendors for single-country coverage the larger vendors couldn't serve.
HR & payroll assessments

Clear findings, costed paths

Consulting

Multinational firm, HR operating-model analysis

Challenge
A mandate to reduce US HR headcount ahead of AI-driven change and to near-shore or off-shore other tasks.
Opportunity
Analyze HR functions and model the financial savings of each location option — headcount, recruitment, facilities, remote work, training, and management — in an adjustable framework.
Outcome
The client expanded the effort beyond HR and used a mix of near-shore and off-shore resources for 60% of affected US roles, with projected savings starting at $1.2M in year one and reaching $4.35M by year four.
Financial services

US firm, payroll controls remediation

Challenge
Nine months of payroll errors, dissatisfied employees, and potentially inaccurate tax filings — with the payroll director and the outsourcer blaming each other.
Opportunity
Work through a hostile payroll team to uncover the real issues: missing input verification, no separation of duties, poor training, ignored SOX controls, and weak documentation.
Outcome
With new controls, training, targeted personnel changes, and closer collaboration with the vendor, processing improved — preventing most new errors and creating time to resolve the inherited ones.
